#Shalash Stormlight

I’m wondering about the Heralds’ relationship with their associated Radiant orders. Like obviously Nale has had a lot of influence over the Skybreakers. He’s the Herald of that order, a Skybreaker himself, and the only living one who has sworn the Fifth Ideal. Modern Skybreakers are the way they are largely because of Nale’s direction and enforcement of the order’s structure and methods.

But what about the other Heralds? Have any of them been involved with the Radiants at all, or do they try to forget? Does it depend on the Herald?

I don’t know if Jezrien was aware enough to be involved with the Windrunners before Moash killed him. We know pretty much nothing about Chanah and Vedel. I wonder what they think about modern Dustbringers and Edgedancers. Same with Pailiah and the Truthwatchers. I kind of think Ash would have absolutely no interest in being associated with the Lightweavers, and would actively try to distance herself as much as human(ish)ly possible. Batah and the Elsecallers??? Kalak is another one who I think would try to avoid any reminders of the past. Taln has been locked on Braize for 4500 years, and is now in no shape to be involved with the Stonewards. And we’ve seen how Ishar treats Dalinar.

I just think there’s a lot of potential to see how Heralds who aren’t Nale might have guided their Radiants at various points over time

Shallan drew a prayer to Shalash and then unconsciously sketched a woman kneeling over a statue, ruining its face. How? Shallan can’t see the future. Maybe because she has two spren bonds?

Recently started rereading stormlight, shalash was totally at the feast. I mean restares (I forget his herald name) mentioned seeing the work of another herald using she/her, her statue was missing (she defaces depictions of herself), AND there was an unusual person jasnah met with (who had a shardblade)

Stormlight Archive Characters and the Modern name I think they’d have

(Btw, im focusing on American/Western/ykwim names)

Adolin: Aaron (reason: the meaning is close to Adolin’s own, it’s meaning in Strong's Hebrew Lexicon being"Light-bringer", and the fact they have generally similar structure.)

Kaladin: Kayson/Callum (Reason: Kayson has a similar nickname format to Kal, being Kay. It also means “healer”, and i thought that was nice. Callum being a secondary option, more for the fact the nickname is identical, is also just generally a name i see Kal having.(Also it’s loosely based off of Saint. Columba, and the direct meaning is “dove”, which is a symbol of the Holy Spirit, and i think it fits Kal’s character to be named after a saint and a big religious thing, with his name being “born unto eternity”)

Shallan: Primrose/Lilias (reason: while Shallan’s name doesnt currently have a canon meaning besides being derivative of Shalash, it’s actual meaning as a name means “Poppy Flower” and because i didn’t feel like Poppy fit Shallan, i found names that matched Shallan’s energy and general meaning, taking ‘flower’ instead of ‘poppy.’ Lilias is a Scottish name— my own personal HC of where she would be from, or at least her ancestry— and fits Shallan’s name of having two consonants on either side of her name and the middle being symmetrical. Primrose was just a general vibe pick)

Dalinar: Dallas (Reason: Dalinar also has no confirmed names, its similar to Brandon’s son’s name, Dallin. That name means “from the valley”, so I looked at names with the same/similar meanings. Also vibes, and the fact Dallas is a city, and Dalinar sounds similar/has the same last letters as Kholinar)

Renarin: Raziel (reason: because there are NO good R names. No but this one was tough. Renarin’s name doesnt really mean anything i could translate into like an irl name, so i just went through all R names. This name kinda has the same feel as Renarin’s must in Roshar, being generally adherent to naming standards while sounding out of place. Also, in the Jewish Kabbalah, Raziel is an angel known as “The Keeper of Secrets.” So, (Spoilers?) pass at Sja-Anat and stuff)

Stormlight Pride fanfic recs - General/Teen Edition

Happy Pride! Here are some Pride themed Stormlight fanfic recs, General and Teen rated edition!

I got requests for cute KalMoash and any and all aroace Kaladin fics, so those are on top.

Here’s an aroace Kaladin to start, and it’s not just one of my favourites because I wrote it: The Wisdom of Horses by cosmere_play Rated Teen, 6000 words, vaguely RoW maybe? Bi Adolin has been crushing on ace Kaladin, and they both come to terms with their feelings.

Now for some ladies! Raboniel/Leshwi, anyone? beautifully struggle, every day by shalash Rated General, 4000 words, RoW spoilers. Following Raboniel and Leshwi’s relationship through thousands of years of war and madness.

Shallan pining for Jasnah? Why, it’s canon, isn’t it? Three Meetings by Truthwatcher_Vez Rated Teen, 5000 words, vague Oathbringer spoilers. A modern high school AU where Shallan, a sophomore (grade 10) keeps running into Jasnah, a senior (grade 12), and develops a crush that goes unresolved. 

A romantic pairing for a couple lucky Windrunner ladies: When You’re With Me, I Can Soar by cosmere_play Rated Teen, 3000 words, RoW era Lyn had a recent breakup, and she really wants to court Laran. But would it be dishonourable to ask her out so soon?

More overt romance, this time for Cord and Rysn: Lovesick Lowlander by TrishHankins Rated Teen, 2000 words, Dawnshard era Rysn is TRYING to court Cord but it’s not working

Let’s mix it up with some gender goodness: are you like me? by werealldreaming (Restricted to registered ao3 users) Rated General, 2000 words, RoW era Lift and Ral-Na talk gender, and they discover similarities and differences in their experiences.

I’ve excluded Lift, Renarin, and Jasnah because they are due to have flashbacks in books 5-10 (the other two flashbacks are the heralds Shalash and Taln).

Rated General, 5000 words, 200 hits (which actually isn't terrible for a Stormlight fic), written back in 2021. About a judge on the cusp of inventing the concept of international law, and don't we all need that hope in our hearts when we read Stormlight?

Rated General, 4000 words, 90 hits, also written in 2021. Leshwi/Raboniel, a sweeping epic covering a 7000-year relationship. Just gorgeously written and the ship is galaxy brained.

Rated Teen, 2500 words, 89 hits, another 2021 spectacular. A cracky Kholin family New Years party modern AU! Is it full of inside jokes? Yes. Is it still very funny and worth reading? Yes!

people are really looking at stats to determine if a fic is worth reading? no wonder fics that never got popular at the first drop never had a chance 💀
